Notepad++ Portable

All you really need to create Web pages is Notepad which you can find in the Accessories folder of any Windows PC. However, we want to use a more amped up version that will recognize HTML and color code our code writing.

Please download your own free copy of Notepad++ Portable onto your flash drive.

KompoZer Portable

Formerly known as "Nvu," this is an easy-to-use web editor similar to Microsoft Frontpage or Dreamweaver. It is based on the same Gecko engine that powers Firefox and Thunderbird and features an FTP site manager, color picker, tabbed interface, CSS editing, standard-compliant markup, fully customizable interface, a built-in spellchecker and more.

Free Programs

Coding HTML, free in the chrome store, allows you to preview how your page will look in real time while you code using a split screen. Only bummer, no way to save what you code except to cut and paste it into a document.
CoffeeCup Software, includes an html editor like KompoZer and an FTP program
PortableApps, offers a whole slew of free downloads including browsers, image editors (like scaled down versions of photoshop), developer tools, utilities and quite a few games- all of which can run off of your flash drive, so you can take them anywhere and use them on any computer!

If all you've ever used is Windows Internet Explorer, you're missing out. I recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla's Firefox so that you can add on Web developer tools for things like measuring graphics, sampling colors, and viewing source code. All of these are free-downloads.
